GWO Basic Safety Training - Initial
The aim of the course is to provide the participants with the necessary basic safety knowledge and skills through theoretical and practical training which is approved according to the GWO Standards in accordance to GWO Module Basic Training Modules:
Fitness to Participate declaration, participants must be physically capable of wearing a harness and climbing a ladder safely, maintaining 3 points of contact
Long sleeves and long pants, Appropriate safety footwear
USI and Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
Please refer to the below courses outlines for further course content and descriptions: GWO - Safe Work at Heights GWO - Provide First Aid GWO - Fire Awareness GWO - Manual Handling Course Trainer to Student Ratio 1 Trainer | Max 4 Student 2 Trainer | Max 8 Student 3 Trainer | Max 12 Student For GWO Basic Safety Training - Initial courses that include units of competency, FSA must trade in accordance to ASQA (Australian Skills Quality Authority) guidelines and only take a deposit of $1500 where the fee is being paid by a private student/learner; where fees are being paid by a corporate client, the full amount if the course is charged at time of booking. The outstanding fee amount after the $1500 can only be processed within 7 days prior to the commencement of the course.
On booking your course, we request that advise which of the following options suits your situation:
Option One: Your employer is paying for the course and you need an invoice for the full amount
Option Two: You as the student are paying for the course and will be paying the $1500 now with the balance paid within 7 days prior to the commencement of the course
Once we have received notification of which option you have chosen, we will send you an invoice for either the full amount or deposit and final instalment/balance for the remaining amount.
The GWO Basic Safety Training - Initial payment plan will be worked out as follows:
Initial $1500 paid at enrolment and remaining $730 to be paid by first aid of the course
- Legal and ethical
- Risk / Hazards / Planning / safe methods of working
- Anatomy and Lifesaving first aid - primary survey - D-R-S-A-B-C-D
- Secondary survey, first arrest systems, dropped objects
- Fire science, classes of fire, types of extinguishers
- Basic firefighting tactics
- Emergency procedures and management of an incident
- Scenario based training and rescue exercises

Students learning outcomes will be assessed using practical activities designed to simulate the work environment and written questions as appropriate.
Classroom theory via PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion. Practical components using height safety equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
