Health and Safety Representatives Initial OHS Training Course (VIC)
This innovative HSR OHS training course is approved by WorkSafe Victoria and aims to provide Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs with the information and skills needed to exercise their powers under the Victorian OHS Act 2004. Managers and supervisor or any other person with an interest in OHS may benefit from attending this course.
NSCA is approved to deliver the HSR Initial OHS Training course, on completion of this course a Certificate of Attendance will be issued by NSCA.
Under the OHS Act 2004 (section 67) all elected HSRs and Deputy HSRs are entitled to undertake WorkSafe Victoria approved OHS training for HSRs and choose their training provider in consultation with their employer. NSCA is approved to deliver the HSR Initial OHS Training Course.
Under Section 67 of the Victorian OHS Act an employer, If requested, must allow an elected HSR and elected Deputy HSR to attend a WorkSafe approved HSR Initial OHS Training course on paid time, pay the cost of the course and any other associated costs.
This course provides a practical focus on the role of the Health and Safety Representative, with an emphasis on achieving positive outcomes in the workplace through consultation and issue resolution processes. The course is delivered by experienced safety practitioners who add significant value to the achievement of the learning outcomes.
The NSCA is approved by VIC Worksafe to deliver the HSR Initial OHS Training Course, on completion of this course a Certificate of Attendance will be issued by NSCA.
Course Aims and Objectives
This WorkSafe approved training course will help a HSR to understand and exercise their powers effectively. This training equips HSRs with the confidence, skills and knowledge to represent their co-workers and to help make their workplace safer.
Although HSRs are the primary audience, managers, supervisors, health and safety committee members and anyone with an interest in health and safety may also benefit from attending this course.
The learning objectives of the course are:
- Interpreting the occupational health and safety legislative framework and its relationship to the HSR
- Identifying key parties and their legislative obligations and duties
- Establishing representation in the workplace
- Participating in consultation and issue resolution
- Represent designated work group members in any OHS risk management process undertaken by the appropriate duty holder/s
- Issuing a Provisional Improvement Notice (PIN) and directing the cessation of work
Unit of Competency
This course is non competency based.
There is no formal assessment with this course.
A Certificate of Attendance will be issued by NSCA to participants who complete all five days of training.
The course is administered and delivered by NSCA, utilising theory and practical activities including trainer led presentations, group discussions and the use of scenarios. Training will be delivered within a public training facility.
